The UK is now home to 4.5 million small companies looking for ways to expand their business. But sometimes growing isn’t always that simple.
That’s why, in partnership with other organisations BT has created Small Business week. It will help every sector break the barriers to long-term success and solve those problems you thought were down to you.
Starting Monday 29th October national and local government, and business experts, will be getting to grips with the finer parts of business life, with support services and owner managers discussing cures to those sleepless nights.
From web seminars and podcasts to advice clinics and downloadable guides, we’ve got it covered - and it’s for everyone. Initiatives and events are taking place at a host of locations across the UK.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of the UK economy,” says the managing director of BT Business, Bill Murphy. “But are the right resources and support structures in place to nurture these businesses, to enable them to grow and develop the skills they need to prosper?
“At BT Business, we have direct relationships with more than 1.4 million SMEs. We are committed to providing services to meet their needs, and want to better understand the challenges they face and the opportunities they must successfully exploit in order to survive and thrive."
Further events throughout the week will focus on a range of issues currently having an impact on the nations’ small businesses and aspiring start-ups, such as flexible working, running a home-based business and addressing the green challenge. BT Business will release the first in its series of Better Business podcasts and web seminars, looking at how small businesses can grasp the potential of technology from starting up and beyond.
Dr Saroj Duggal, owner of Crownsway Insurance, International Insurance Brokers, believes that opportunities like this are a great way to learn more about business.
“Small Business Week 2007 offers owner managers like me a raft of opportunities and tips to improve and develop our businesses,” he said. “Whether it’s advice on how to start up, or insights into environmentally friendly practices, the tools and resources available are invaluable in helping small businesses to deliver good customer service, motivate staff and enable and ensure long-term growth.”
