Larry Augustin - CEO, SugarCRM

SugarCRM was founded on the principle of sharing. Of course, as a company which creates open source customer relationship management products, we share our code. But CRM itself is also about sharing – sharing information within a company to provide the best experience for your customers.

For businesses, the open source philosophy is all about increasing productivity through sharing. And the faster and more effectively people and companies can share information the more productive they can be.

A few years ago, the kinds of tools that we produced were the province of big corporations. Now, thanks to the internet, any company can use them to increase their productivity levels and reach new markets. It doesn’t matter whether those markets are traditional ones in the developed world, or fast-growing nations like India or China. But it all depends on having good, fast, ubiquitous internet access if you want to make the tools available to everyone in your organisation.

That’s why we’re excited by what BT is doing to build next generation internet access through the UK and beyond. For business, next generation access means companies can give more people in their organisation access to cloud computing tools, and spreading cloud computing throughout your organisation is one of the best ways to make the most of it.

The more people who use cloud computing in your organisation, the lower the cost per user will be – and the more your employees can share information in the most effective way possible. And it all depends on having the best access to the internet you can get, which is why next generation access is so important.
