BT Wholesale is today launching the eagerly anticipated I-Plate which BT hopes will filter out the electrical interference in the home caused by televisions, lighting and home wiring.

The device, which will be available to customers who have a BT NTE 5 master socket, should increase speeds by up to 1.5Mbps, with some lines seeing improvement by as much as 4 Mbps.

It is hoped that by installing the new plate, nine million broadband customers can benefit from both line speed and stability, allowing for faster downloads and better quality streaming. Plus, there’s no need for an engineer to install the device, it can be easily be fitted by you.

I wish every success to this product. My broadband has been really superb since I sorted out the interference that the I-plate removes. See: http://www.dougrice.plus.com/Erlangs/adsl_Appendix.htm

I have been suffering BT broadband with less than 500k for over 2 years with no plans for BT to improve in my area which is in a built up area of Basingstoke. I am also paying the same tariff as someone that gets anything up to 24 meg. I personally feel that this device shold be proactively be provided for users like myself that are paying way over the average if you break it down into Bps. Yours in anticipation Kevan McCaughan

Hi all - I'm going to pass on everyone's comments about this to the appropriate people within BT. I'm sure you're not the only people having problems getting this!

I too felt, after reading the piece in the BT Today article, what a great bit of kit and I duly set of to get it! As above no-one in (BT) sales had even heard of it so I dead ended there and that's how I arrived here. It is commercially available from retailers NOW and here is one such outlet... http://www.vispashop.com/broadband/bt-iplate-faster-broadband-/prod_144.html. I have had no dealing with this company it is merely the first positive hit I had on the WWW. Apparently this went on sale in July 2008 so why is it so obscure? Additionally if, like me, you have the twin outlet NTE5 with the filtered ADSL port as well as the telephone connection you can't use it! Good luck in chasing those elusive Mb/s. Jensen

I have already emailed BTtoday about their overwhelming news about the I-Plate. After months of drop-offs and reassurance by the BT Help Desk that my line was OK, I found out about SNR Margin from the KITZ web site. I made another enquiry to their technical expert who did not know of the term. I fitted a NTE5 faceplate asdl/voice splitter on my master socket which stopped the drop- offs. I was also able to remove the micro filters from my extentions. That was 18 months ago. The fact that BT staff are unaware of this I-plate news just shows the frustration BT customers have with the company.
