10m Brits want to go it alone

Over 10 million Brits want to take the leap into self-employment according to research by Business Link.

While 35% of workers have given starting up some thought, only 20% feel they will make the leap in 2008, with many admitting the current economic climate would make them reluctant to start a business in the near future.

“It’s encouraging to see how many people dream of setting up their own business to enjoy the flexibility and benefits of working for themselves,” said Rosemary French from Business Link.

The poll of 2,000 Brits also revealed that a third of people dreaming of their own business wouldn’t get round to it because they are unsure of how to go about it.

“Many people who wish to start their own company can be put off due to fear of failure or uncertainty about how to start,” Rosemary added. “However there is a wealth of free information, advice and support available locally and online, to help budding entrepreneurs every step of the way.”
