Business continuity problems are still rife amongst UK small firms with experts claiming that a major emergency would put seven out of 10 companies out of business.
According to the government and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) UK businesses are under prepared for a major emergency, with more than two-thirds having no plans to deal with a disaster.
"I urge all firms to plan for the unexpected-doing so will make the difference between survival and going under should the worst happen," advised director general of the ABI Stephen Hadrill. He added that last year’s floods had highlighted the inadequate continuity planning in many businesses.
A seminar held yesterday by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, Defra and the ABI promoted the need for adequate insurance and contingency planning and have launched a campaign to help small firms keep their heads above water.
