Firms ‘can’t go green’

Implementation barriers and a lack of understanding are stopping businesses from going green, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has claimed.

Despite 92% of firms claiming that they are socially and environmentally responsible, inadequate facilities and poor communication are proving obstructive, as senior FSB spokesperson, Andrew Cave, explains. “It can be difficult for a small business to do a simple thing like recycle paper if the local authority is not providing the appropriate facilities,” he said.

Cutting through the government’s red tape is another possible factor preventing UK companies from shrinking their carbon footprint, which could have hefty cost implications according to Business Link. Enterprises who do clean up their act can enjoy financial savings through reductions in energy usage and environmental tax breaks.
