Fewer women in the UK workforce are facing barriers because of their gender according to a new research by Business Link London.
While 20 per cent of women still face opposition because of their sex, this number has dropped significantly from the same study conducted a year ago when 38 per cent said they had to work harder than their male counterparts to prove themselves in the business world.
‘This poll shows a significant shift from last year,’ explained Diana Robertson, marketing and communications director at Business Link in London. ‘Women business leaders in the SME sector are making noticeable inroads into gender barriers, and using customer service to spearhead the change.’
The research comes as the UK marked the 99th International Women’s Day on 8 March 2010 which celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.
