‘Maintain your web site or else’ businesses warned

The British Computer Society’s Internet Specialist Group dished out some advice for managers, urging them to look after their web sites in order to maintain customers’ interest.

Regular updates are vital if businesses are to remain popular once initial excitement has died down, as Howard Gerlis, Chairman of the group explains: "A good website must catch the eye and provide good content which is quick and easy to find. [Businesses should] always consider how they are going to have repeat viewings of the site, something to keep the customer coming back for more."

The aim of an online presence is to boost sales, increase productivity and advertise the business to a wider audience. Despite these benefits, recent research by web development firm Netflare revealed that 23% of UK business owners had neglected to update their websites after initial launch.
