Staff training helps workers feel valued

UK staff feel more valued thanks to employment training rather than pay increases, research has found.

The survey by the National Training Awards and YouGov found that seven out of 10 workers feel that their employer’s commitment to staff training helps them feel valued, with 69 per cent saying it makes them want to work hard.

‘It is fascinating how the more important values and motivations of the UK workforce come to light. Particularly, organisational aspects such as management styles and the provision of training and development opportunities can be very important in keeping a workforce motivated, productive and happy,’ said Simon Bartley, CEO, National Training Awards and UK Skills.

The research shouldn’t come as a surprise to employers with less than a third claiming to be motivated by money, with 43 per cent of staff motivated through passion for their job or firm where they work.
